The 2023 Research and Education Forum took place on 27 October 2023, the first day of the 33rd World Design Assembly hosted by WDO and the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). The event took place at Chiba's University's Design Research Institute in Tokyo.

The forum brought together designers, academics, students and design professionals to further enhance the future of design research and education through a series of thematic presentations and discussions exploring Design Beyond and its sub-themes.

The final keynote of the day was presented by Katja Forbes. Katja is a seasoned leader in the digital industry with a proven track record of driving growth and innovation. She is currently the Design Leader & DEI Director at the Data Visualization Society and an expert in areas such as ethical navigation of emerging technology, CX, UX, data science, and product design.
